FIU shortstop Garrett Wittels signed with the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. GW will be reunited with former FIU teammate Jeremy Patton and start his pro career playing for the Batavia Muckdogs -- the same team that Patton is playing for right now.
GW finishes his FIU career hitting .352 with 7 HR and 116 RBI in three seasons. This past season GW hit .345 with 4 HR and 40 RBI, including a couple of 10th inning game-winning home runs against No. 15 Stetson and Arkansas State at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
As you well know, GW put together a 56-game hitting streak in 2010 while hitting .412 and winning the Sun Belt Player of the Year Award.
Congratulations to GW on a fine FIU career and best of luck with the Cardinals.
