FIU slugger Ashley McClain broke the all-time FIU softball RBI record over the weekend. By belting a first-pitch double to right field that scored Beth Peller in the fourth inning of FIU's game against Oregon State in Fullerton, Calif. Sunday, McClain knocked in her 137th career run. The RBI broke a tie with former FIU standout Jennifer Owens, who had 136 RBI in her career.
McClain is closing in on two other FIU career records: hits and home runs. Currently with 217 career hits, McClain is 50 base knocks away from Owens's record of 267 career hits. With 27 career home runs, McClain is four round-trippers shy of the FIU career record of 31 home runs held by Kim Rodriguez and Monique White.
McClain is hitting .389 with 2 HR and 14 RBI this season. It will be just a matter of time for both records to fall since the Panthers have 33 games plus the Sun Belt Tournament left to play.
