FIU linebacker Jordan Hunt was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his performance against South Alabama last Saturday.
Hunt had a team-high 11 tackles in FIU's 28-20 win. Including nine solo tackles, Hunt recorded one forced fumble, two pass breakups, one quarterback hurry and one interception.
Hunt was outstanding in the fourth quarter with the game on the line and FIU clinging to its one touchdown lead. Hunt forced a fumble on USA running back Demetre Baker at the FIU 48 with 11 minutes left, allowing the Panthers to recover on their own 38. On USA's next drive, which reached the FIU 8, Hunt stopped running back Kendall Houston for a two-yard gain on second down, and had a critical breakup on quarterback Ross Metheny's pass on third down from the 6. USA would miss the field goal attempt. On USA's final drive Hunt intercepted Metheny at midfield, ending the Jaguars' final threat.
GOODBYE, DOLPHINS
Former FIU and current Indianapolis Colts receiver T.Y. Hilton helped defeat his hometown team, the Miami Dolphins, with a 36-yard touchdown catch and 102-yard receiving performance in the 23-20 win Sunday. Hilton went up between a pair of Dolphins defensive backs to haul in the touchdown.
The 102 yards gave his Goodbye his second 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. T.Y. had a 113 yards and a score earlier this season against Jacksonville. CLICK HERE for more on Hilton's performance.
