Heading into the season finale against ULM this Saturday, several Panthers are approaching career program records.
Running back Kedrick Rhodes is just 96 rushing yards away from the all-time FIU rushing record held by Rashod Smith. Rhodes (above) currently has 2,099 career rushing yards. Smith had 2,195 yards. Of course, Rhodes is just a junior so he will likely add to this record next season.
Rhodes and Darian Mallary are tied for third all-time with 13 rushing touchdowns. Former Panthers Darriet Perry (27 TDs) and Smith (24 TDs) are Nos. 1 & 2. Mallary, a senior, will play his final game Saturday.
With his next touchdown pass, quarterback Jake Medlock will break a tie with FIU's inaugural quarterback Jamie Burke for fourth all-time on FIU's passing touchdowns list. Medlock has a ways to go to catch FIU record holder Josh Padrick, who threw 42 touchdown passes. Paul McCall (34 TDs) and Wesley Carroll (30 TDs) are Nos. 2 & 3, respectively.
Rhodes can move into second all-time on FIU's combined rushing/receiving yards list. Rhodes, currently No. 3, has 2,644 career rushing/receiving yards trailing former FIU receiver Cory McKinney's 2,788 rush/rec yards for second place. Like he is with many FIU receiving records, T.Y. Hilton is the all-time record holder with 4,029 combined rushing/receiving yards.
Safety Johnathan Cyprien won't catch Nick Turnbull or Anthony Gaitor for the top two spots on FIU's career interceptions list, but Cyprien (below) could tie or pass Lionell Singleton for third all-time on the interceptions list. Cyprien enters Saturday's game with 7 career picks. Singleton had 8 interceptions in his FIU career. Turnbull is the all-time leader with 16 picks. Gaitor had 11.
Cyprien can also move up on the FIU career assisted tackles list. He currently has 152 assists good for No. 4 all-time. John Haritan had 154 assists for the No. 3 spot. Cyprien would need a huge game against ULM to move up any further. Scott Bryant is No. 2 with 159 assists. The late Lance Preston is the FIU career record holder in assists with 163.
With a forced fumble in Saturday's game, Cyprien breaks a tie with Antwan Barnes for the all-time FIU record in forced fumbles. Each player has 6 career forced fumbles. Winston Fraser and Bryant are right behind with 5 forced fumbles. Greg Hickman and three former Panthers: Ash Parker, Alexander Bostic and Jermell Weaver each have 4 FFs.
Cyprien has an outside shot at the FIU pass breakup record. Gaitor is the record holder with 25 PBUs. Singleton and Turnbull are tied for No. 2 with 22 PBUs and Cyprien is fourth with 21 PBUs.
Should Tourek Williams have a monster game, no pun intended, against ULM then he has an outside chance at catching Barnes for FIU's career sacks record. El Monstruo Barnes had 21.5 career sacks. Williams currently has 17.0 sacks.
