Entering its game tonight at Florida Gulf Coast where FIU coach Richard Pitino nearly became the head coach in the spring of 2011, FIU has already matched or in another case, is coming to close to matching last season's offensive output. Once the Panthers play more consistent on defense, don't be surprised to see FIU make a run in the Sun Belt before the final season in the conference is done.
FIU goes into tonight’s non-conference game averaging a Sun Belt-leading 74.5 points-per-game. The Panthers have reached the 70-point plateau four times and the 80-point mark three times this season after just six games. Last season, through 29 games, FIU reached 70 points five times and scored 80 or more points in three outings.
With scoring up for FIU, the Panthers will look to decrease the points they allow per game. FIU is allowing 74.5 points-per-game this season. While last year through six games, the Panthers were allowing exactly 70 points-per-game.
FIU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The FIU women's team has a pair of home games this week beginning tonight when Central Florida visits U.S. Century Bank Arena for a 6 p.m. tip-off. FIU hosts Dartmouth at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Both games can be seen for FREE on PantherVision.
PITINO SR., PRANKSTER
FIU coach Richard Pitino's father, Louisville coach Rick Pitino had some fun with a reporter's cellphone during his press conference after the Cardinals win over UM-Kansas City. FIU plays at Louisville next Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. The game can be seen on the Big East Network.
