Usually it's the quarterback passing to the receiver. In this case it's the other way around.
I had a chance to speak with FIU's all-time leading receiver T.Y. Hilton yesterday before Hilton boarded a plane to Hawaii this morning. The former Panthers and current Indianapolis Colts receiver is going to the Pro Bowl as a spectator. Although if Hilton continues his rookie season production, Hilton will soon be playing in the Pro Bowl.
Hilton said he's going to enjoy some vacation time in Hawaii before he gets back for off-season workouts. One of those off-season workouts will be with current FIU quarterback Jake Medlock sometime this summer.
I spoke with Medlock yesterday on my way to get Cuban coffee at the Graham Center. Medlock said he's completely healthy from the bumps and bruises of last season and is excited for the new pro-style offense he will run under FIU coach Ron Turner.
Medlock said he won't be running as much in the new offense as he did in the spread offense last season. That should keep him a little healthier. Besides working out with Hilton, Medlock is going to also work out with Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon when the quarterback goes back home for the summer. So Medlock will be working out with the top two NFL rookie receivers this summer.
Among the other things I spoke with both Hilton and Medlock about was Medlock calling Hilton to ask permission to wear No. 4 this coming season. Medlock's favorite number is 4 because of his idol, former NFL quarterback Brett Favre.
Medlock called Hilton to make sure it was OK with Goodbye if he would wear No. 4 at FIU this season. Hilton gave his blessing and joked with Medlock that: "You got some big shoes to fill." Which is no joke considering the impact Hilton made at FIU.
