FIU football is turning back the clock -- if you can say that about a 12-year old program. The Panthers are going back to wearing gold pants as part of their uniform scheme. FIU will still have white pants and blue pants available to wear with its blue jerseys and white jerseys. However, you are likely to see a lot of the new gold pants which will have one of our readers from Atlanta, "SouthPaw", throwing a party in Georgia tonight. SouthPaw is a long-time reader of this blog and FIU fan who was missing the days of FIU football gold pants.
As you can see in the photo below the gold pants are not as shiny as the gold pants the Panthers wore when Don Strock was the FIU coach. Below Dominique Rhymes is modeling the gold pants. Demarkus Perkins is wearing the all-white FIU uniform. Compare the gold pants Rhymes is wearing to the gold pants former FIU defensive back and current FIU quality control Greg Moss wore when he played.
FIU has a new helmet color for the 2014 season. The Panthers are going with a shade of blue that is more compatible with their blue jerseys. In years past FIU's helmet was a dark metallic blue. Now the Panthers helmet is a blue color similar to the Denver Broncos helmet.
FIU equipment manager Chris Terlizzo and his hardworking staff (Red, Julian, Ivan, Edel -- not the singer, Lindsay) displayed the new FIU uniform gear for me today. Here is Chris holding up the new FIU helmet on the left and the previous FIU helmet on the right. You can clearly see the lighter shade of blue on the new helmet compared to the previous helmet.
The Panthers will also wear four different styles of shoes in the 2014 season. Here are the shoes along with the new socks.
