FIU opens baseball practice later this month and the 2017 season at home against Jacksonville State on Feb. 17. But before those days arrive the FIU ballpark is getting some renovations done. Take a look:
The batting cages are being furnished with new carpeting and new netting. The new netting can be rolled back so that the cages can be used for fielding drills.
The outfield wall is being redone with new graphics to honor the retired jerseys of FIU players (Toti Mendez, Mike Lowell and Oriol Perez) and former coach Danny Price. Mendez and Price are on the left field corner. Lowell and Perez are on the right field corner.
Panther eyes are being displayed on the left center field wall and right center field wall.
The infield, which has had a rocky surface in the 5.5 hole (area between shortstop and third base) for years, has been resurfaced.
The backstop to the field has a new design.
And the Panthers will have new indoor batting cages to practice in under the first base stands.
